
Joyce Shen is a venture capital and private equity investor and business builder. Her technical expertise spans emerging technologies, artificial intelligence (“AI”) & machine learning (“ML”), the data economy, and cybersecurity. As an experienced technology investor and board director, Joyce has extensive experience deploying institutional and family office capital in transformative and emerging technology companies across key industries, creating long-term value. As a faculty member, she equips graduate students with the expertise to apply advanced AI and ML techniques to address complex, high-impact challenges across major industries. Previously, Joyce was managing director of emerging technologies and investments at Thomson Reuters. She was also the founding CFO of IBM Cloud Platform.
Joyce holds a BA in statistics and a BA in economics from the University of Chicago. She earned her MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago. She also completed graduate studies in economics and mergers and acquisitions law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Joyce has authored three books on blockchain, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
