Doug Bender graduated from Alcorn State University with a BA in Political Science and Economics and went on to receive a master’s degree in Human Resources Counseling from North Carolina A&T State University. He also studied law at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.
He has worked for some of the most exciting organizations in corporate America, including Miller Brewing Company, Uncle Ben’s Foods, and M&M/Mars, and he’s held a number of corporate and manufacturing HR positions that involved the training and development of thousands of employees and executives. He has been an accredited HR professional since the early 1980s and was an active member of the American Society of Training & Development for almost 20 years. He has also been a member of the International Coach Federation.
Doug is currently Practice Leader and Organizational Development Consultant for Human Resource Capital Consultants, an HR consulting practice specializing in managing high-level complex HR initiatives as well as championing improvements in management and leadership effectiveness. His specialty covers HR strategy development and organizational effectiveness, leadership development, team performance, and workplace respect. Doug consults with many organizations in the areas of professional training and development, management education, and leadership development, including executive coaching.
Doug has written two books – The ABCs of Leadership: The Simple Elegance of Getting to the Top . . . and What it Takes to Stay There (2008) and Caution: Smiles at Work (2014). He is also a contributing author to a chapter in The Leadership Challenge Activities Book (2010). A passionate educator, he has also taught management internationally.
