Miji John Vellakkatel

Miji John Vellakkatel has been a Deputy District Attorney with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office (LADA) since 2005. He currently serves as the Deputy-in-Charge of the Inglewood Adult Area Office where he oversees deputy district attorneys who prosecute misdemeanors and felonies. Previously, Miji was the Special Assistant to the Director of LADA’s Bureau of Victim Services (BVS), which provides comprehensive support services to victims of crime from crisis intervention to assistance in obtaining restitution orders. His prior assignments include Habeas Litigation; Family Violence Division; Compton and Pomona branch offices prosecuting cases involving domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault; Pomona Juvenile; Long Beach branch; and the Bellflower area office.

Miji volunteers with the Los Angeles County Bar Association, having held leadership positions in the Criminal Justice Section, including Chair. He also volunteers as a board member at a nonprofit organization focused on ending all forms of abuse and as a facilitator in LADA’s Project Lead program, which helps 5th grade students learn about the justice system. He serves on the boards of the National Asian Pacific Island Prosecutors Association (NAPIPA) and Association of Deputy District Attorneys (ADDA).

Miji earned a BA in international studies from the University of California, Irvine; a JD from Whittier Law School; and a Master of Laws in alternative dispute resolution as well as a graduate certificate in business law from the University of Southern California.
