
Alyssa Brissett is the Head of Reference for Bobst Library at New York University (“NYU”). She manages the Reference Services department, which includes virtual and in-person services, oversees the general research workshops program, and provides vision and strategy for reference services across NYU Libraries in partnership with colleagues at local and global campuses. She also provides information literacy support and research consultations to undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines. Alyssa specializes in fostering community among reference providers and patrons and cultivating campus partnerships to facilitate programming and services that support the creativity, well-being, and research interests of students, faculty, and staff. Alyssa has extensive experience in public services in academic libraries, including serving as an access services and course reserves supervisor at Columbia University’s Lehman Library, where she coordinated course reserves for faculty in the social sciences and managed access services. At USC Libraries, she was Head of Education, Social Work, and Gerontology Library Services and Social Work Librarian, supporting students, faculty, and staff through reference services, research consultations, collection development, and instruction in social work, education, and the social sciences.
Alyssa earned a BA in English from Cornell University, an MA in childhood education from New York University, and an MLIS from Wayne State University. Her research interests include the intersection of slow librarianship and library leadership, organizational change and culture, and social justice and community-building in libraries.
