Dione Surdez

Dione Surdez has built a career focusing their expertise on the intersection of digital archiving, critical librarianship, empowerment leadership, digital asset management, and world-building. They serve as Technical Services Librarian in Digital Projects at LA County Library, where they manage the digital processing of archival and community collections. 

Dione holds a BA in creative writing with a minor in cultural anthropology and an MMLIS degree, both from the University of Southern California. They also earned a Silver Certificate in digital asset management from Rutgers University and a Professional Certificate in rare books and manuscripts from the California Rare Book School (“CalRBS”) at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Education and Information Studies. Dione is recognized by The Order of Troy at USC and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society. They are an active member of the Society of American Archivists and the Society of California Archivists. A sample of Dione’s publications includes “Aiming for that digital sweet spot: Using DAM to refactor a traditional library archives project” (Journal of Digital Media Management, 2020) and “Virtual exhibits and museums: How digital asset management rises to meet the challenges” (Journal of Digital Media Management, 2022).
