Joshua Hutchinson is an assistant university librarian and the Head of Acquisitions and Cataloging for USC Libraries. He manages physical backlogs to ensure timely processing and integration of materials and is responsible for all monograph ordering and cataloging (print and electronic) across USC’s 22 libraries. With experience spanning from small corporate libraries to large legal deposit institutions, Josh has an extensive background and is passionate about the intersection between library technical services and departmental change management.
Josh holds a BA in history from Skidmore College. While studying in the United Kingdom, he earned an MA in medieval history at the University of Durham and an MScEcon in library and information studies at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. His recent publications include a co-authored article in Cataloging and Classification Quarterly entitled “Improving subject description of an LGBTQ+ collection” (2023). He also served as Chair of the Unified Best Practices Cataloging Guide Task Force and co-developed the On-line Audiovisual Catalogers (OLAC) best practices cataloging guides for DVD-Video, Blu-ray discs, objects, streaming media, and video games (2023).
