Marta Golbano

Marta Fernandez Golbano is the Rare Books Cataloger for the USC Libraries. With an extensive international career in library science, Marta has served as a librarian and archivist across various European countries, including Greece, Italy, and Spain. She was the Training and Projects Cataloger at the British Library, which is the national library of the United Kingdom (UK). In this role, Marta led the cataloging of rare and antiquarian materials – including maps, serials, and printed books dating from the 16th to the 18th centuries – and provided comprehensive training in cataloging methodologies to librarians. Additionally, Marta collaborated with the British Library to formulate cataloging policies tailored to the needs of UK libraries. Her diverse applied experience underscores her adaptability and expertise on an international scale.

Marta earned an undergraduate degree and MA in history and library sciences from the University of Barcelona in Spain. She also completed graduate studies in library and information science, focused on information and documentation, at the Open University of Catalonia in Spain. Additionally, Marta has obtained several certificates in rare book history and description.
