Melissa L. Miller is an associate university librarian with a continuing appointment as Head of the Hoose Library of Philosophy in conjunction with her service as a humanities librarian who specializes in philosophy, religion, classics, anthropology, and linguistics at the University of Southern California (USC). As a USC Libraries leadership team member, she is experienced in strategic leadership, operational oversight, and administration, including managing budgets and resources. Melissa is highly skilled at developing effective working relationships within complex environments, including her notable work with external partners. Melissa’s interdisciplinary research intersects heritage conservation and the digital humanities, focusing on medieval manuscripts and rare books. Her advocacy of DEIA+AR practices supports the advancement of knowledge, skills, access, and diversity of cultural heritage material.
Melissa earned her BA, MMLIS, and EdD from USC. She has published and presented numerous articles and book chapters nationally and internationally. In 2021, Melissa published her first monograph, “Mind, Motivation, and Meaningful Learning: Strategies for Teaching Adult Learners,” which focuses on teaching and learning in an online environment.
